Cop Gone Wild???

Granted the cop should have reacted differently but the kid in this case is baiting.  Rather then comply with a lawful request for ID he challenges the authority of the police officer.  Training obviously, instructs police officers to react differently.

The problem is, that many who engage police in physical confrontations often display the same challenging verbal behaviors during the initial contact.  As a result, some police go on the offensive verbally.  You could argue it is a natural reaction based on self preservation that takes place as a result of inadequate, routine, timely, refresher training, educating police on how to react to verbal challenges.   I realize this is only one explanation and may be the least plausable when compared to the alternatives.  Most would argue that it is what it is, a cop who is pissed because of the contempt the “kid” has for his authority.  I believe the roots of this cops issues run deeper.  Hopefully, he is held accountable for his actions.

You are one dumb imbecile, and be happy to tell it to you face, given half the chance. This tape is the perfect example, and merely the tip of the iceberg of what is going on in this country re cop brutality, perjury and false charges.

There are two kinds of people who side with cops on these issues: those who are so laughably ignorant, their shadow surprises them from time to time. Or, they know exactly what is going on, but have vested interest in maintaining the status quo.

The answer, to protect both cops and suspects: ALL suspect/cop interaction be recorded. The data be kept and maintained by an independent, third party, the government never touches it. And lastly, the suspect gets a copy of this data, free of charge, the police, DA, need a court order.

Now to all your brilliant minds out there who back police, reflexively, where’s the problem in this kind of “fact machine” applied to our “justice system?”

EDIT: I actually agree with most everything you are saying, except the part about being dumb. I believe you read my comments as somehow excusing the cops behavior. I do not. It must be addressed through whatever processes is available. Much of what you are saying is actually done with departments throughout the country.

Requiring the police and DA to get a court order will unduly hamper the ability of those organizations to take disciplinary action against rogue cops. Court orders require a judges signature and need a criminal predicate. Many situations fall short of an actual crime being committed and fall under policy violations of the department. These policy violations are used to dismiss and discipline officers. If the accusation is a policy violation, then utilization of a court order in such circumstances would not be supported by current case law. As a result, cops would actually receive MORE protection for their inappropriate behavior. There are several cases from around the country currently working through the court system where police departments have used subpoenas as part of an internal affairs investigation. Many of those cops have gotten their jobs back because of the use of a criminal process for a non-criminal event.

I appreciate your comments. Just try to keep the insults to yourself.
