ADT Pulse Adds Two Cameras

It appears ADT has added two more camera options to the ADT Pulse system. Below is a picture of the two additional options. They are called the ICamera-1000 and the OC810.  Both are made by Sercomm.  It would appear the OC810 is made for outdoor use.  The OC810 also has a built in microphone according to a stat sheet.  I do not know if ADT supports audio yet on the Pulse system.  I have no idea if what ADT is putting out is close to the stat sheet.

Two New Cameras On Right SIde of Picture

I could find no additional information on the ICamera.  I would guess it is an indoor option.  Probably wireless.

Edit: Previously used two different model numbers to describe OC810. There is also an OC821 Modle.

who makes the icamera 1000 cant find any info on this wiresless outdoor camera

  2. March 3, 2012 at 2:19 pm

Info on the ICamera 1000 is pretty hard to come by. A google search produces hazy results. Sercom makes the OC810. Perhaps the ICamera is also Sercomm but I could not find anything. It would appear Sercom makes or is somehow associated with, the three other camera components listed so this is just a guess on my part. See the link: http://www.sercomm.com/SWI/GUI/PROD_IPS.htm

ADT told me I can add my own cameras but have to pay them $75 each for their firmware. What kind of wireless camera does it have to be?

    • June 19, 2012 at 4:25 pm

The RC8021 is available for pretty cheap from a variety of vendors. Check Ebay. In theory if they are going to replace the firmware any camera could do. The 8021 is a sub standard camera. I would look to upgrade. The ICamera 1000 is wireless. Seems much better than the 8021.

Find out how they are going to do the firmware. If they provide it to you after you hook up the camera? If so, how? I am curious. I did read a story of an individual copying the firmware from an adt wireless camera and hacking/substituting that firmware on to a better wireless option. This leads me to believe you can go with any camera as long as it is bluetootcompatiblele.????

I just got Pulse installed. The installer told me that anybody can add additional cameras, but they have to be the ones shown above. He hinted that in the future, it might be possible to add other wireless cameras, but for now, you have to use these. He said to check eBay for the RC8021, saying that he’d seen them for around $149. I want 1 or 2 outdoor cameras, so I just sent an email to Sercomm to find out where to buy the OC810. ADT’s prices are a bit too high…

    • September 1, 2012 at 7:03 am

Be careful getting the RC8021’s. Reading on the net others have purchased them thinking they would work with the pulse system. The firmware is different and they will not work. If you look at your current camera it will have a -ADT after the model number.

You might try going back to ADT and asking for a “deal.” If you are former military you can get a USAA account and get a discount on equipment and your monthly bill. If you think of it, let us know how your email to Sercomm works out.

I just had an ADT sales rep at my home last night getting us set up on our plan and equipment. Install is scheduled for Dec. 10. We’re getting one wireless bookshelf camera (as ADT calls it) and one of the lamp/light modules. I’m looking for more indoor and outdoor cameras for cheap because ADT is wanting quite a lot of money for them. So the OC810 is the indoor wireless and the icamera-1000 is the outdoor??? or is that backwards? I’m looking for any recommendations you may have. I’m also really interested in the door lock option but they want almost $300 for that installed which I think is crazy. Your thoughts are appreciated!

    • November 28, 2012 at 4:10 pm

ADT is very high with their equipment. The OC810 is the outdoor camera. Sorry for the confusion. I will clean up the post a bit to make things more clear. I do not know of a source for those outside of adt. You can find good wired cameras on ebay. They have to be wired through the nv412-adt. The 412’s have to be purchased through adt. I think they are about 100 dollars. You can find the 412’s on ebay every once in a while. The door locks are crazy high. I went the route of making my own garage door opener as a substitute. Looking on web I have not been able to find the door locks for cheaper.

    • November 28, 2012 at 5:37 pm

Home now so I thought I would clarify some options on the cameras.

If you don’t want to go through ADT for your cameras you are pretty much stuck buying wired cameras. You will have to get the NV412’s from ADT as I said above. For cameras I was not sure if any analog camera would work so I found some very cheap ADT cameras on Ebay. The cameras are analog and hook up to the NV412. The NV412 goes to a switch, the switch connects to the Ihub. The analog cameras are great and work very well in low light. I was comfortable wiring and realize this might not be an option for you. I purchased camera Model ADT-A-CBVD36PI60. You can view them at this link: http://www.adt-matrix.com/products/cameras/bullet/cbvd36pi-cbvd60pi.

I just looked at my old email with ADT. I paid 275.00 for 4 encoders. They gave me a 10 percent discount and then there was tax.

It took a lot of work to get ADT to give me the encoders without having one of their installers come to my house. I posted a complaint on their facebook page and got quick results. There is a link relating the story in this blog. The nightmare part was on paying. They charged me twice, then again. I eventually got that all taken care of and my contact at ADT was VERY helpful. Frankly, their internal structure is a joke but I have had great experiences with their techs and customer support for the PULSE system.

So would you go with the door lock or not? My fiance and I are trying to figure out when we’d honestly use it. Only time I can think of is having family member over to let the dog out while we’re not home. Happens only few times a year so not sure if it’s worth it. It’d be nice to have during that situation though but for $250, I don’t know. The outdoor camera above the front door is nice especially since we don’t have a window or peep hole to see who’s there. That’s also been quoted to me at $250. Salesmen wants to set my system up completely wirelessly. So cameras would all be wireless. Found the RC8021’s on ebay, auction ends in 4 or 5 days but completed listings have them ending at $400 or more. This isn’t a home I’ll be in forever either. We plan to move within 5-10 years to a larger home. Salesmen said I can take accessories with me though like cameras and light modules. I really like the advertising ADT does that shows their system but it takes so much money up front to get anywhere near their examples. What kind of set up do you have and would you recommend the door lock and front door camera?

    • November 30, 2012 at 2:29 pm

I would not get the door lock. It is VERY expensive. If you could get it for a good price then go for it. I think the door lock is only a deadbolt. So your lock on your door knob would have to be unlocked also. The door lock would be nice for fire alarms and carbon monoxide alarms. You could set a rule for it to unlock for the authorities.

ADT Pulse is pushing for market share right now. I would push for a deal or maybe even get a bid from a rival adt store. I think I paid about 1200 bucks for my install. I was the first in my area with the pulse. That was about 2 years ago. My install included two wired cameras two light switches and two lamp modules. I lucked out on my system. Radio shack had a clearance sale for 5 dollars per zwave light switch. I cleaned up and got about 10 of them. The rest of my system I got at the http://www.homesecuritystore.com and ebay. I do know the installer code for my system so I can also add my own security modules. I added flood sensors, outdoor motion, carbon dioxide sensor and a few more window sensors to my system. I did it for a WHOLE BUNCH cheaper than ADT would. In short, you need the installer code for your system. They probably wont give it to you. I got mine from a sympathetic technician who was at my house for a repair.

The outdoor motion sensor is nice. I have it set up to take a video when tripped. I would go with the outdoor camera. I would steer away from the door lock until you can find one that is not crazy expensive. You can add the door lock yourself down the road. Try to get the NETGEAR touch screen. It is much nicer than the GE one.

Keep looking for deals. They will pop up on ebay. Try to get the installer code. Tell them you want to add a motion sensor down the road. You can down load the manual for your security panel on the web for directions on how to add security devices.

On my system, all the cameras are wired. I did this myself. I cover it in some parts of this blog. I am a gadget guy so this type of stuff is fun for me. This week I am putting in a solenoid water shut off valve on my house main line. It will shut off the water when the flood sensors are tripped. Probably will never happen but fun to set up. The valve cost me about 35 bucks. The module was 19 bucks. The same system produced goes for 400 dollars. You can use your imagination when it comes to those light and appliance modules.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Yeah that’s the seller I’m messaging back and forth. He says he’ll sell me his camera for $100 in a separate auction. I told him I’d bid but I don’t need the ihub. His reserve is at $350. He wants $50 for the light module but I can get that brand new from ADT for that price. I think I’ll do the camera for $100 unless you’ve seen them lower. I’m kind of similar to you in a way when it comes to stuff like this. My fiance doesn’t understand but I almost did the whole damn package that included all the expensive accessories. I plan to add some things still. Shockingly, our salesmen didn’t even give us pricing on a smoke or carbon monoxide detector. I had to call the day after to get pricing on those. I really want the indoor night vision camera but ADT is wanting $200 for those and I can’t find any of those online at all. I’ll probably have them install the outdoor camera above the front door for $250 even though it drives me crazy at that price.

    • November 30, 2012 at 3:01 pm

Gotcha. The cameras pop up. Check this link out. I do not know if these will work. You would have to reach out to the sellers. They are Sercomm IP cameras. Sercomm is the company that makes some of the adt pulse wireless cameras.

      http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=oc810&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313&_nkw=sercomm&_sacat=0

If the link does not work do a search for Sercomm. Also search the web. For example ADT wants 200 dollars for their GE touchscreen. You can find it on the web every once in awhile for about 100 dollars. Sometimes on Ebay for about 125-50. It might be worth waiting for some stuff. Get a bare bones system up and tweak it over time.

    • November 30, 2012 at 3:11 pm

Hmmm..don’t think those cameras will work. Sorry. They are wifi. Caught that in the details.

    • November 30, 2012 at 3:07 pm

Also, Carbon Monoxide detectors can be added as wireless devices. If you get the installer code you can do this yourself. If ADT adds it they will charge you for the monitoring. If you install yourself test the device via the MyADT login. This is different then the Pulse login. MyADT is basically a way for you to set your system in test mode. Once in test mode trip the carbon detector and you will be able to tell if it sends an alarm to ADT via the MyADT login. I think it is crazy for ADT to charge for this monitoring. It’s the same type of alarm!

Well that seller just sold the camera to me for $100. So saved $50 there by not buying it from ADT. I have the full monitoring system so they’re charging me the max that includes the carbon monoxide and smoke detector monitoring I just didn’t purchase the detectors. Salesmen told me if I purchase items online and they don’t require labor to “install them” then the installer will just get them activated or added to the pulse system for me. Feel like I should forget about saving the $50 and just buy from them so it’s set up for sure instead of this salesmen telling me they’d do it. Those cameras have to have -ADT in the model # or they won’t work with the Pulse system according to that salesmen. I’m hoping the install goes smoothly in December even with the accessories I purchase else where.

    • November 30, 2012 at 3:18 pm

Yup. For sure on the cameras. When I first saw them I thought they would work however they are Wifi. When you add modules make sure you “refresh” your network via the Pulse portal. Do this in the system tab, click on the module, click refresh.
Good luck. If i see a good deal on the web I will let you know.

Edit: Sorry, I must have deleted some text. Fixed.

Do you know the model numbers ADT uses for smoke and carbon monoxide detectors for their Pulse system?

    • November 30, 2012 at 4:21 pm

Those items are managed by your security panel. In fact, all security type sensors are added to the system via the security panel interface. Lights, modules, thermostats, etc… are added via pulse interface. Because of this the type of carbon and fire sensors will depend on what brand of panel you have.

I have a Concord4 which is GE. I think ADT is now using Honeywell/Vista panels. Look on your invoice then get the sensors that match the manufacturer.

So, the panel and pulse work together. Pulse is more home management. Panel is security related. All sensors can be seen by pulse. Pulse controls automations and schedules for all sensors. It also enables user to view logs for all sensors.

I just stumbled upon this post and saw where you posted about adding your own security & life safety devices and that prompted this post. You do understand that even if you bypass ADT’s protocols and use the installer code to add security, fire, and life safety devices to the system, all you are doing essentially is adding them for your own local use. It can be defined all you want on your end as a smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector, door sensor, etc. And if you add the alpha text defining the zone to the keypad it will display it as such on the Pulse portal. But that ADT Pulse interface does NOT sync with ADT’s central station monitoring platform. So when this smoke detector you’ve installed goes off because your house is ‘ablaze, you may get a nifty text message or e-mail, but ADT’s central stations are only going to get undefined signals (if they get any at all), which come in as low priority events – at the bottom of the totem pole for their response, not like a true smoke or carbon monoxide alarm. So nobody is going to be rushing to your aid. Just wanted to point this out. Sometimes saving a few bucks isn’t worth not having your life and properly adequately protected. Just wanted to make sure you guys understood the potential ramifications of what you are doing with installing your own devices.

    • December 24, 2012 at 7:26 am

I have found this not to be the case. I do appreciate your comments and it is something the end user should check. All the security items I have added work and have been tested with ADT. These tests have been done with a rep on the phone and through the “MyADT” interface. This is true of both items I have added through the touchscreen “pre nerf” and the actual control panel by attaching the keypad. I have not added any smoke detectors. The one motion detector I have installed is working however, I don’t want it to alarm and have put it in the appropriate zone. Important information to be sure and I would encourage everybody to test their added devices once they are included in the system. In my case, they work as intended both through tests and one false alarm (totally my fault, opened garage which has a garage door sensor I installed, talked to neighbor, went to his place for a beer, cell phone rings and adt is telling me my alarm is going off, my bad)

Edit: I was thinking this might be true for the water sensors I have installed. We had a small leak, the alarm went off (annoying and I changed this) but no call from the monitoring station. This did not bother me since I don’t want that type of call and did not think about it until now. My sole purpose with the water sensors is to inform me of the issue and shut off the water.

When ADT initially installed the system they added wireless window sensors. I added more, including a garage door sensor. Those devices work and do trigger the appropriate monitored response. In my case, the system does not differentiate between ADT installed wireless window sensors and user installed.

I have several of the 810 models, but they did not come from ADT. They actually came from Verizon’s Home Monitoring and Control product (which is horrible). I have tried to connect these to my ADT Pulse through the portal, but it keeps failing and telling me the unit needs factory reset. I’m guessing this is because the firmware is different. Has anyone figured out where to get the firmware and how to load it?

    • January 31, 2013 at 9:13 am

You are right. The camera’s will not work with their current firmware. I did find something in google once of an individual who discussed flashing ADT firmware over to a non ADT camera. Maybe a google search for “flashing adt firmware on to non adt camera” will bring up something. You may try calling ADT Pulse and see if they are willing to provide the firmware. I did read something where an individual claimed ADT was willing to sell them the firmware. Not sure if it would be worth the price. You can find ADT Pulse camera’s on ebay every so often. That might be your cheapest option.

    Inzax,

Bill is 100% correct. The ADT Pulse Portal has NO link or cross connection to ADT’s monitoring systems. It is a separate entity that is not connected. I have several theories on how you got your items to be “identified” by ADT and defined in their monitoring system, but none worth getting into detail here simply due to speculation. But as someone advising people about adding their own devices – you really should be careful because it just will not work as a true monitored device. Period.

    • July 22, 2013 at 7:33 pm

Security devices ARE NOT part of the PULSE side. They are on the security side associated with your panel. You can add them via the PULSE pre nerf but all you are doing is adding security devices via the pulse interface to the security panel. Water sensors are not considered “security.” My experience, ANYTHING I have entered via the installer code on the panel triggers a response from ADT. Two others advise the same results. The test was done with ADT on the line and system in test mode. Either way, not an expert so all should proceed with caution. Test your system.
